UPCYCLING PROGRAM

The Upcycling Program is one of CORMIS Vietnam’s most signature and meaningful initiatives. The program breathes new life into high quality fabric remains from hotels and tailor shops, materials that would otherwise be discarded as waste. Through the skillful hands and creativity of artisans with disabilities and non-disabled tailors, especially women who have unstable job with low income; these materials are transformed into unique handcrafted products such as bags, accessories and decorative items that directly benefit the at-risk communities in Central Vietnam (Hue, Danang and Quang Ngai). We aim to educate youth and women, people with-disabilities with entrepreneurial skills that secures income generation; environmental protection and build community by connecting people and resources into the loop of sustainability. So this program helps to (1) reduces fabric waste discharged into the environment, (2) develop working skill and provide another income for the people with disabilities and non-disabled tailors, (3) raise awareness of communities on fast fashion and fabric waste reduction, (4) building skills and inspiring the youth and the upcycling team to become change agents on fabric waste reduction in their communities and (5) connecting people to work together for sustainability.
